I AM MY OWN PRIMAL PARENT

I AM MY OWN PRIMAL PARENT

Thanks to NYC based curator Katie Cercone I have been selected to exhibit my work at group exhibition I AM MY OWN PRIMAL PARENT @ KARST, Plymouth’s largest independent contemporary art space. I am honoured to be included in this NYC heavy stellar lineup! This exhibition is also part of the Plymouth art weekender.

Astral beasts, galactic stunts, nightlife culturati, audiophiles and technophiles, absurdist neo-shamans and sacramental synesthesiacs comprise our I AM MY OWN PRIMAL PARENT exhibition, their bizarre prophecies, culinary listening, phantom phalli, trans-dimensional art-tourism and polymorphous nature castles and cults populate an impressive new terrain.

I AM MY OWN PRIMAL PARENT is by no means a show about sex, or simply sacred kink. For many of these artists, conjuring your PRIMAL PARENT comes down to human beings as conscious actors in a matrix of creation which is by nature, sensual, binding, and multidimensional. Many work in sound, and likewise create artworks in whatever medium as a series of energetic ebbs and flows, of union and discord. Relationships, environments and situations frame the basis of their creative objectives, leaving current Art discourse ill equipped to digest their paranormal dimensions. These works offer tethers connecting an invisible order to the visible order, visions from the frontrunning prophets of a fast forward generation determined to let the false idols crumble to dust.

Please note this exhibition includes images and themes of an adult content. Parental discretion is advised.

International New York Times

This years, Pankhurst in the Park Artist in residency the Bunny Collective is making waves in the art world! With a full page interview by Ginanne Brownell Mitic in the The New York Times International, in connection with their Frieze art fair collecting edition. Both in print and online. Although it took over eight months to come into fruition, the timing could not have been better. I'm absolutely thrilled for them, because I worked my ass off to make this years programme happen.

Finally home after one month in New York! Great to be away but there is nothing that will beat sleeping in your own bed. I've had such an amazing time and meet so many great people along the road. Will particularly miss my daily banter with fellow Norwegian/US artist Scotto Mycklebust. Who invited me to be the first in a Visiting Artist series, at studio 511, collaboration with West Chelsea Artists Open Studios. Non of this would have been possible without the help and support of radical artist and feminist writer Katie Cercone, co-founder of Go Push Pops.  Also had the pleasure of staying in a artist live/work space, called the Mothership in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, run by Norwegian artist Sol Kjok. Sol also have the most amazing large studio and performance space down the road called The Last Frontiers. We are already plotting a upcoming collaboration.

Pankhurst in the Park 2016

Pankhurst in the Park 2016

I am am absolutely thrilled that Alexandra Arts have been awarded funds from Grants for the Arts for Pankhurst in the Park! Kicking off in spring 2016. Thank you Arts Council England!

'Pankhurst in the Park' 2016- takes inspiration from Alexandra Park's rich heritage connected to Iconic Suffragette, Emmeline Pankhurst; this years programme includes a International Artist Residency (AiR), artist commissions and age friendly engagement opportunities. Accompanied by an integrated Arts Awards educational program with St Mary's Primary School in Moss Side.

This year Alexandra Arts will do things a bit different with the Artist in Residency – it will be done by invitation only. We secured our funding later then expected, hence running out time to do a open call for this years AiR.

We will continue to strengthen our ties with New York,  connection made during 'Pankhurst in the Park' Arts Basel Miami 2014 as well as the Maverick Expo in late 2015. In the pipe line is a series of transatlantic exchanges and an exhibition in New York. So watch this space......

The full park programme, including the Artist in Residency and New York venue will be announced on Friday the 29th of February 2016.
